Dick Grayson 002 Ⓡ video

[The Pokegear snaps on, and Dick, in a nice waiter's shirt, slumps down against a wall and sighs.]

So this is, uh, ridiculously embarrassing.

[His hair's slicked back, too, and he's loosening a little bow tie with his other hand. Tugging at it with a little more force than strictly necessary.]

Exactly, um. Does anyone have any tips for how to... like, not go broke? How do people keep track of money? How do you not run out?

I plead lack of maturity, lack of understanding of the value of a... whatever the unit of currency is here, I don't even know.

And yeah, okay, if you all want a good laugh at my expense, my foster father is a billionaire, both through inheritance and being the CEO of a worldwide corporation. Go ahead, I've heard all the rich kid jokes and I don't really care, I'd just be grateful, in return, for a little--

[There's a voice yelling in the distance, something about not being paid to take breaks; Dick jumps up and shuts off the feed immediately. He does have a work ethic, okay, he was a circus performer until he was nine, but that money was all put in the bank.]

Seems as though you've got it all sorted out now. [ She's too serious for conversations like this. ]

[pretty sure he knows this guy but not positive]

Camping makes a lot of things cheaper. It's saved me a lot of money.

[laughs with a slight wince]

He's taking it harder than he lets on, he can be pretty unbearable. He's not taking to having to walk everywhere either. Made me carry him once because his feet hurt.

They can choose not to, though that mostly depends on their whims. I'm not sure how common they are in general, but both are Normal-types that can be found around New Bark Town and Cherrygrove, and they've been extremely helpful during most of my Gym battles.

Well, I use Teddiursa. Because bears are awesome.

I guess since they grow up expecting it they probably know how to handle it. It does seem really strange compared to how things were back home for me.

[ he smiles a bit, nodding. ]

Mostly people are really helpful here. Everyone can kind of understand how hard it is to start out, I guess.

One of the most brilliant people I've ever met also happens to be fifteen. You might say I have a wide breadth of experience with precocious children.

As far as I know, Phanpy are guaranteed to have Pickup as an ability, if your cat doesn't pan out the way you're hoping. Technician isn't a bad alternative, though — particularly not if you find yourself someday using it in battle as well as an economic resource.

And let me know what you name it, won't you?

Exactly! At first it's all about rules, and measuring, directions. But once you're good you can start playing with the directions and ignoring some of the rules.

Not all of the rules, but the rules that are really more like guidelines!

I don't see people using that method a lot, though. Maybe they don't see how it's useful?

Ugh, I hate Violet City.

Haven't been there in years.

But go kick Falkner's butt, if you can. He's the jerkface Gym Leader.

That would cause a few problems. Good thing Pay Day just requires you to train if you want faster income. If you can't breed, well, P1000 per attack's still a pretty neat perk.

[A part of him's tempted to put two in a room and have them toss money at each other for hours. It could be entertaining.]

Places in Violet...

[When's the last time he's in Violet?

...Well damn, it's been a year? Or a little over it.
]

Nope, sorry! It's been too long since I visited Violet City.
artofthestress: (oh right that)

[personal profile] artofthestress 2013-05-18 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we all must start somewhere. It might be worth a shot, unless there's something you can do to make some money.

This is about it... Well, I can walk like this, too, but not as well as I could back home.

Eventually. I need some levels. Silena's my highest, but she's Fighting, and while she could probably get to the point of overpowering the Flying types, there's no point. Carmilla has resistance, but she's still pretty little, she just hatched not too long ago.

[Yeah, it has been... he smiles a little apologetically.]

I still feel... useless? Insufficiently self-sufficient? I'll have to find a way to make it up to you in the future.

I hope he doesn't keep you too long.

[Dammit, her refusal to underestimate him only raises his esteem. Not as planned!]

Hatshepsut for a girl, obviously. Thutmose for a boy is on the list, but not as appealing.

How does Technician work? I kinda admire multitasking.

I might have been known to take my fair share. And my foster father and butler both are very literary guys.

[He shakes his head rapidly.]

Not presumptuous. At least, if you were, I didn't notice. That hits a little close to home, as the "foster" qualifier might have implied.
