ROBIN √ 001 √ 3-19-13

[The gear snaps on after falling out of the bag. Heard in the background is the sound of a Pokeball releasing its occupant, and wings flapping. The Pokemon, a Taillow, nudges the Pokegear towards the edge of—yes, it’s a roof. The bag was tossed up on to the roof of Mom’s house, the gear and Pokeball were jostled by the impact, and they are now both looking over the edge at a boy dressed in a red and black bodysuit, with a yellow and black cape. He’s climbing out of the bedroom window. The Taillow focuses the camera on the “R” logo on the kid’s chest. It looks important!]

Ooookay. Definitely not in Kansas anymore. Kansas would be so good right about now.

[He edges a little further out, seating himself on the windowsill, back towards the outside, and sizing up the roof. He catches sight of the bird holding the camera and grins, the eye lenses of his domino mask widening to reflect slight surprise. He doesn’t realize that it’s recording yet.]

Me not being in Kansas anymore must make you Toto, huh? Or Dinah. Birds holding cameras seem a bit more Wonderland than Oz, but I’m not the expert. So long as you’re not Cheshire, I think we can work with it, though.

[He looks back up at the roof, still grinning. He grips the edge with both hands, and pulls himself up with a grunt, and mutters:]

Since when does this require effort?

[Another grunt of exertion, and Robin forces his body upwards into a handstand, trying to balance on the edge of a sloped roof, before turning a quick tumble into a crouch.
It… doesn’t work that way. His legs are wobbling slightly, and when he tries to swing into the tumble, his balance shifts and he topples over with a brief yell of shock.

In the opposite direction.

Off the roof.

Shocked yell out of the way, Robin begins trying to grip something, anything on the wall while the Taillow squawks in distress and drops the camera. The Pokegear rights itself on the ground just in time to see the bird grasp the Boy Wonder’s cape.
It slows his descent, but the weight is too much for a small, level 5 Taillow and the two crash into the ground, Robin groaning as his knees absorb the impact. He gives the bird a pained, but grateful look.]

Well, you have Superman’s color scheme down. We can work on the rescuing thing.

[He flops over, lying on his side. Taillow uses his wings to shade his eyes from the sun, and Robin gently strokes the bird’s breast. Annoyed:]

I cannot believe I just fell off a roof. Nobody saw that, right? I just fell off a roof.
Batman would kill me if he knew I actually fell off a roof. I mean, there goes my reputation. Say nothing of the mystique. A roof. Not even a big roof. It’s only two stories—and—

[He notices the Pokegear Taillow dropped. It’s lit up.]

Why is that thing—

It gets old after a while, but I haven't quit yet.

[Said with a nod and a smirk.]

What gave me away? The cape, the mask, or the logo?
staystraught: (try it.)

[He's got the slightest raise of the brow for you.]

Next time, I'll break my neck, too.

[And he's just going to reuse the same ol' line:]

Comic books are for nerds. Strike one.

[Still, he rolls out his shoulders.]

But you didn't call me "Bird-boy," so I might be petitioned to overlook your whelming cleverness.
staystraught: (and that's the way it is)

Actors have stunt doubles. I, as previous stated, have bruises.

[And a cape, which is draped just so, to offer a little more heroic legitimacy.]

I'd offer more, but my skills and utility belt were taken from me at customs.

How about everything? Doesn't help you mentioning Batman after your fall.

[She's not a comic book fan but its not every day you actually meet a well known iconic character in the flesh and blood. She's not really doubting this guy either cause this place was already strange enough as it is.]

The guys back home won't believe me when I tell them I actually met the Robin here.

[Slightly exaggerated little disappointed snap of the fingers, but he likewise does not question. He didn't get into the crimefighting business because it was fun-- that was just an added bonus.]

You can call me Robin.

[He was seriously considering ditching the costume, figuring the superhero get up would make him a target, and not wanting to deal with that if he wouldn't be able to fight anyone off. Even so, no use connecting his superhero identity to his civilian identity this early in the game.]

Good of you to check in on gravitationally-challenged teenagers. D'you make a habit of it?
sweettalker: You keep right on believing that then. (o2 Are you sure...? Okay then...)

[Okay, assuming he's really telling the truth? This is seriously kind of cool. What person in the country DOESN'T know who Robin is? He's more widely known and remembered across generations than some presidents!]

Sorry, just, somehow I didn't expect to see superheroes in this place. I really shouldn't even be surprised, since Thor showed up a few weeks ago.

[Uh, yeah, he's expecting it.]

All I know is that I used to play this video game as a kid. And that this bird seems pretty intent on following me.

And if you know me, you know that I hate knowing that little.

How many roofs has he been on, if he keeps falling off them?

[Legit curious, before he gets back on track.]

I'm perturbed because I think you intended it as an insult, basically. I'm neither mad nor do I consider it necessarily a bad thing.

[He's got mathlete trophies okay.]

That's because he's your "starter" Pokemon. And you know more than I did when I first got here. We don't have stuff like video games in the world I'm from. Or electricity for that matter.

[She'll just send over this video and this video too, then, working as she talks, so her eyes are on that. It kind of hides the being shaken up just a little. She's glad she wasn't on the receiving end of THAT look before now.]

The offer still stands for me to tell you what I can, if you're okay with that. There's a lot to tell.
hammerfell: (to whom it may concern)

I know not the motivations of the force that brought us here. Considering the power it takes for methods to pass between worlds--at least those known to me--it would seem that it was a powerful force indeed.

[Seems like one of Loki's tricks, honestly. But Loki wouldn't have the power to turn Thor human.]

Thus far it does not seem that we were brought here solely to fight.
punchandkiss: (So what now?)

I think that would be less impressive and more stupid.

Maybe like eight or nine? At least five that I can think of right off the bat. They all kind of run together 'cause pretty much the same thing happens every time.

[She shrugs, popping the other half of her cookie into her mouth — but then kind of blinks at the explanation because on one hand, wow, stuff like this is way easier when people actually say what they mean like that, and on the other hand...]

Why would I mean that? It's the age of the geek.

Seeing as you're the first, I might.

[chuckles]

I seem to have extensive experience waking up in a new place or time lately, so I figure if I can make this whole situation easier on a gravitationally-challenged teenager, I might as well. So, if you have any questions, fire away.

Though, since you are gravity-challenged, my first bit of advice: don't try climbing the ledges, you won't be able to, so don't bother.
sweettalker: It's either drunk Mr. D or a Leo prank. (◘» ... Yeah I'm calling the cops.)

The very same. [She opts not to comment on the complete and absolute lack of superheroes in her world, because she's already made it clear she recognized him. She isn't about to tell someone they're fictional-- even if just her reality.]

We have more heroes than superheroes where I'm from, honestly, but Batman and Robin are impossible to miss. [That's safe enough, right?] I just hope that Johto and Kanto don't decide they need to drag in the Greek family, too.

Perhaps so. I do not know how powerful your imagination is.

[Thor's expression is a slight smile.]

Were it intended to cause harm instead of mere inconvenience, I would think intentions would be made clear by now. I have been here two weeks, and I have heard of longer stays. It is a diversion, little more.
