Dick Grayson 002 Ⓡ video

[The Pokegear snaps on, and Dick, in a nice waiter's shirt, slumps down against a wall and sighs.]

So this is, uh, ridiculously embarrassing.

[His hair's slicked back, too, and he's loosening a little bow tie with his other hand. Tugging at it with a little more force than strictly necessary.]

Exactly, um. Does anyone have any tips for how to... like, not go broke? How do people keep track of money? How do you not run out?

I plead lack of maturity, lack of understanding of the value of a... whatever the unit of currency is here, I don't even know.

And yeah, okay, if you all want a good laugh at my expense, my foster father is a billionaire, both through inheritance and being the CEO of a worldwide corporation. Go ahead, I've heard all the rich kid jokes and I don't really care, I'd just be grateful, in return, for a little--

[There's a voice yelling in the distance, something about not being paid to take breaks; Dick jumps up and shuts off the feed immediately. He does have a work ethic, okay, he was a circus performer until he was nine, but that money was all put in the bank.]

I guess.

I've always done the steamroller thing in real life.

... You know, when, I CAN. It's awesome.

I guess it's probably more fun since the pieces only fall into place for it to work every now and then, though, huh?

[Heather's tough, but 'steamrolling' isn't exactly something a scrawny seventeen-year-old girl with zero training can do. ... So when the opportunities DO arise when she can just pulverize the shit out of an enemy without having to dodge and strategize her way into victory, she... enjoys it a little TOO much.]

Goodness me, that's not my territory at all! But I'll speak with Rainbow Dash.

Both of us - and Twilight, Pinkie, Cadance, and Applejack - we used to be ponies back on Equestria. There's something about this place that changed us into humans. It's dreadfully disorienting.

I'd love to think so, but I really know nothing about her. I only had a handful of photographs ...

[ Her mother loved her, but never forgave her father for making their daughter a Coordinator. ]

Did you have a big family? [ A big family had always been what Lacus always wanted. ]

[considers this]

Not a bad idea, could prove fun.

And he understood as much as a genius billionaire who was just dropped on his ass could.

You know, like in accounting. When you have money and all your expenses are paid, you record it in a ledger in black ink.

If you're in debt or you owe money, you record it in red ink as a warning that you're in trouble.

["In real life" gets his attention, although he decides to downplay it.]

Yeah? That doesn't exactly sound easy.

[For him, it's nearly impossible. He's a short thirteen-year-old. If he's got the element of surprise to work with, he can usually slam a few people out of the commission before the others catch on.]

You get into a lot of fights?

You know, back on the money topic, someone could make a lot of money if they were willing to compensate for the spectacle. Also known as exploiting, but reality TV's never exactly been real. That should go double for in a video game...

[Meep.]

That's kind of disturbing -- not that you were ponies, but that this world thought you being ponies was a bad thing.

Humans have enough trouble learning how to walk on two legs. It must have been even more frustrating for you guys.

It depends on your standards, I guess.

[His voice gets a little quieter.]

Just me, my mother, my father, Uncle Rick, Aunt Karla, and my cousin, John. Dad and Uncle R. were always very close, and we were all one acrobatics troupe, so it was more like being one big family instead of two little ones.

[He shakes his head, ready to turn this back around to her.]

I think it's usually a safe assumption. Especially if she cared enough to pass you a name. Names have power.

I think people come from different situations, and can't really be blamed for that. So...you made a mistake, but now you know better!

At home, my people are mostly independent, so I'm used to looking after myself and thinking about things like this. That's not true for everyone, though, and that's not a bad thing.

...Do they even have reality TV here? I haven't even heard of any of those shows with clips of people getting amusingly attacked by animals.

Maybe not, but they're enough. My Riolu thinks my Charmander is too prissy and keeps trying to kick dirt at her. God forbid she ever learns Dig.

They actually might find that boring. Getting attacked by animals? That's Tuesday for people here.

[Well-- to be fair, that wording had been carelessness on her part. She doesn't think this isn't real life... but it's easy to set it aside from the somewhat harsher reality she'd come from by using the misleading phrase. Compared to home, and barring the more unpleasant sides of life here, this place was practically paradise.]

Yeah, you could say that...

Actually, it's the hands that caused more trouble than that, dear - they're quite different to use than hooves or magic, which makes manipulating certain things complicated.
